Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is the most common type of massage which involves soft, long, kneading strokes, as well as light rhythmic, tapping strokes, on the topmost layers of muscles.  These movements are known as Effleurage and Petrissage. These movements are combined with active or passive movement of the joints which relieves muscle tension. Swedish Massage can be both relaxing and energizing, and may even help an injury. Benefits of Swedish Massage are as follows.

  • Loosening tight muscles and stretching connective tissues
  • Stimulates blood flow
  • Relieves stress and anxiety
  • relieves muscle cramps, and decreases muscle fatigue
  • Overall sense of relaxation

The Benefits of Massage Therapy

At Scruples we not only care about our client's relaxation, but also their continued wellness.  Our highly skilled licensed massage therapists follow a certain protocol with their client.  Our clients complete a confidential questionnaire concerning their medical history which is then discussed and reviewed with the massage therapist. Subsequent to the massage, the therapist post their comments and notes, and the forms are then placed in a secure locked filing cabinet to ensure the clients privacy. When the client returns for their next massage, the questionnaire is pulled and reviewed with the therapist, to discuss any improvements or additional issues that need to be addressed.

We offer a wide variety of massages, in accordance with the client's needs. Research concludes that massage can be a powerful ally in one's healthcare regimen. Experts have shown a link between stress and illness, as well as the aging process. Massage therapy is one of the best ways to relieve stress and improve one's overall health. Reducing one's level of stress and anxiety may also help in slowing the aging process. By managing  stress with massage, this can translate into decreased anxiety, better sleep quality, greater energy, improved circulation, and reduced fatigue. Not only are there physical benefits to massage, but, there are valuable emotional benefits too

Research demonstrates that specific physiological and chemical changes flow throughout the body during and after a massage. It has been specifically noted that with massage, arthritis sufferers have fewer aches and pains, asthmatic children show better pulmonary function, burn injury patients report reduced pain, itching and anxiety. Other advantages include high blood pressure patients reporting a lower diastolic blood pressure after several sessions, and preterm infants have improved weight gain.Additional benefits of Massage Therapy are as follows.

  • ·         alleviates low back pain
  • ·         assists expectant mothers with shorter easier labor
  • ·         enhances immunity by stimulating lymph flow
  • ·         stretches weak, tight, or atrophied muscles
  • ·         assists athletes to prepare for, and recover from strenuous workouts
  • ·         reduces post-surgery adhesions and swelling
  • ·         relieves migraine pain

These are just a few of the benefits of touch, which range from treating a chronic disease or to alleviating the tensions of today's living.

Relaxation Not the Only Benefit of Massages and Facials

There are many other health benefits that you may not know about. Let Scruples Boutique & Day Spa help you get your body in tip-top shape.

A massage and facial can help you relax, unwind, and pamper yourself, but that’s not all they do.

Did you know there are many health benefits of getting a massage or facial?

Massage is increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations and studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain, and muscle tension.

Some studies have found massage may also be helpful for anxiety, digestive disorders, Fibromyalgia, headaches, insomnia related to stress, myofascial pain syndrome, paresthesias and nerve pain, soft tissue strains or injuries, sports injuries, and temporomandibular joint pain.

Facials are also a great way to relax and do something good for your body.

When you get a facial, your circulation will increase as warm steam not only opens pores, but also blood vessels. This helps bring nutrients and oxygen to the skin, which will encourage new cell growth. The light massage will also help increase circulation.

Your blood pressure may also go down during a facial. Stress can temporarily raise your blood pressure and by reducing stress, anxiety, and tension, you can help lower the risk of temporary spikes.

Facials can also increase lymphatic drainage. During a facial, the esthetician rubs the products into the skin around the neck and chest, and the lymphatic system is stimulated. By stimulating these lymph nodes, the body increases drainage, and helps to reduce any fluid retention in the face and upper body.

Feeling stuffy? Head to the spa.

The combination of the steam and the massage may help to reduce the pressure associated with both nasal and sinus congestion.

Soothing Sundays

Looking to take a little time out to relax?

We at Scruples Boutique and Day Spa have the answer for you...Soothing Sundays.

Every Sunday, we will open from noon until 3 p.m., and the environment will be quiet and relaxing in our spa and the surrounding areas. The hair salon will be closed, there will be no blow dryers, loud music, or anything else. There will only be a serene three hours in our day spa upstairs.

One special we are offering is a Tuscan Citrus and Herb Salt Glow Treatment, followed by a Swiss Shower and a half hour Swedish Massage. This is also served with a Pina Colada cooler. The cost is $115 and you should allow for 90 minutes.

We will also be doing soothing Touch Therapeutic massages. This will be a half hour Swedish Massage, combined with a half hour Neuromuscular Deep Tissue Massage. The cost of this is $78 and you should allow for one hour.

This session will be tailored for you and will combine various techniques, ranging from relaxation to deep structural work, with a focus on relaxing tension in your muscles. It also promotes increased blood flow, joint flexibility, and better immunity.

We are also offering $10 off a one-hour Hot Stone, Swedish, Fitness, or Deep Tissue massage.

These promotions are by appointment only

Relaxation techniques can last far beyond the massage. They can help you with anxiety, asthma, depression, Fibromyalgia, headaches, heart disease and heart symptoms, high blood pressure, hot flashes, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, nausea, nightmares, overactive bladder, pain, ringing in the ears, smoking cessation, and Temporomandibular Disorder (pain and loss of motion in the jaw joints).
